Last fall, each student in 2nd grade planted a bulb outside of the gym doors. We waited all winter, and now we are rewarded with beautiful tulips!

We made and tested anemometers as part of our weather unit. Anemometers measure how hard the wind is blowing. Fortunately, it was a very nice day to go outside and try them!
Elvis would have been 80 on Thursday, and his music is still inspiring us! We are using the words to "Hound Dog" to help us remember that "You ain't nothing but a hound dog, and you can quit your cryin' 'cause 3 x 3 is 9." As Zion put it, "The peanut butter and banana sandwich is in my stomach, and 3 x 3 = 9 is in my brain." I couldn't have hoped for more!
Our class was chosen to introduce the character them of Empathy in the month of December. Classes are chosen for showing good character. We were very proud and excited, and the students did an excellent job of introducing empathy to the whole school during an assembly.
On Tuesday, November 25, all four second grades dispersed to the four classrooms to enjoy a feast with friends from each of the other classes. Each homeroom prepared a dish to contribute, including dressing, fruit salad, pumpkin pie in a cup, and cornbread with homemade butter.
A big thank you to everyone for contributing many of the ingredients! In the month of November, we were the AR Champions of the school two weeks in a row! This means that our class as a whole scored more points than any other class. Well done!! For this honor we had the AR Bear stay in our room for that two week period. We also had a sign hanging outside our door to let everyone know.
We had a really great Halloween party on Friday morning. A big thank-you to parents of Eric, Alvey, Wyatt, Torrance for planning and helping with games, crafts, and a fun snack. Thank you to others who sent in snacks and supplies. No, these two aren't in our class! This is my daughter, Courtney, and my grandson, Elliott. They live in Wisconsin. Elliott is a lobster this year!
Yes, we climbed all the way to the top! The view was great. We felt like chiefs!
Just how many steps were there? It depends on who you ask! Wow, we love it when Mrs. Schlarman comes for Art! Creativity is encouraged, while basic art principles are explored. The works of art are unbelievable! Today we were using pastels to draw still lifes of flowers. Our own Monet-style works of art. We have studied Claude Monet in August/September. We ended the study by mixing colors according to the color wheel and blending the colors in the impressionist style.
